Our Students

At Shirley Smith High School, our students are at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to foster a learning community where every student is known, valued and supported to grow as a curious, connected learner. We encourage students to be respectful, resilient and engaged, to embrace challenges, celebrate diversity and make positive contributions to our school and the wider community.

Student voice is central to the way we shape school life. We believe that the best decisions are made in partnership with our students, and we actively seek their ideas, perspectives and feedback through regular focus groups, surveys and consultation whenever new initiatives or improvements are being considered.

Our students have a wide range of opportunities to develop leadership skills and make a meaningful difference. Through our Student Leadership Forum, students can serve as School Captains, House Leaders and Student Ambassadors, leading initiatives across areas including community connections, inclusion and environmental sustainability. Students play a significant role in planning and leading assemblies, celebrations and school events, developing confidence, responsibility and a strong sense of belonging.

Visitors to Shirley Smith High School often comment on the welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of community that is evident throughout our school. Our students support one another, value collaboration and take pride in creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels they belong. Whether participating in lunchtime clubs, sporting opportunities, performing arts, leadership programs or community events, there are countless ways for students to connect with others and pursue their interests.

At Shirley Smith High School, we recognise that every student is unique. By providing diverse opportunities, exceptional facilities and a culture that celebrates curiosity, connection and achievement, we ensure there is something for everyone to discover, contribute to and enjoy.
