Principal’s message – Grow with us
Welcome to Shirley Smith High School in East Gungahlin, the ACT’s newest 7-10 public high school.
I am excited and privileged to be the Foundation Principal and to welcome our first year 7 cohort this year.
Shirley Smith High School is a warm and welcoming environment where we work with students, parents, carers, families and the community to enhance student learning. As Principal I value parents and carers as integral members of the school community and partners in the education of each young person.
High-quality teaching, paired with a student’s sense of belonging are key to ensuring successful learning outcomes for all students. By working as part of a dynamic team, our teachers create learning experiences and opportunities for academic and wellbeing growth for all students.
Our beautiful modern and contemporary school is named after prominent activist and Wiradjuri woman Shirley Smith (‘Mum Shirl’, born Shirley Perry). You can read more about her on the ‘About our school’ page.
I appreciate the warm welcome and the new connections our school has made with our community and look forward to growing these in 2024.
